The Hobb Pod is mostly ready! Get it: Sharebee link with various filehosting sites if you want a .zip of the whole thing. The drop.io link if you want to listen online. I screwed up with the order so it's a bit back-to-front and some tracks aren't in the right place, but they are all numbered. I'll go back and fix that soon. Warning: some of the tracks are far louder/quieter than the others! I haven't had time to adjust the gain on them, so don't open a track with your volume turned up high. This especially goes for the Tim the Manly and Millicent Swift monologues... Drop by the chat room or post in this thread if you see/hear any other mistakes. |

Finished listening to it.
That was perfect. A million thanks to everybody who participated. |

Does anyone else want an entire book read out by chi?

I do.
I also want to compliment Emano on her impeccable comic timing in switching the accents. Made me laugh out loud. Also, for some reason my iTunes starts playing Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture after the podcast finishes. It's eerily appropriate. |

I think FooFar broke my speakers.
I hadn't read many of them before this. Hee hee, pretty funny stuff. The writing and performances are pretty good with the exception of that narrator that can't bloody pronounce anything. |

Prue's singing was excellent too.

Kep would be the perfect narrator for any children's book, I feel. Her voice is comforting and well-paced, with emphasis in the right places. Her
enunciation was a lot better than she thought was as well.
Em's voicework was as smooth and professional as ever, and the added bleeps and boops at the start of her monologue were perfect. Chil actually sent me two versions of her monologue and it was difficult to choose which to post. I may upload the unused version as it is almost as good as the released one. I could listen to her say "Lord Bonbon Lawrence LaCrust" all day. Dil's interpretation of Arnold Fixer was spot on and he really captured the essence of the character I had in my head. +1 for audio quality as well. Emano's performance at the last minute was a virtuoso display of comic timing and varied impersonations under extreme pressure. Ata's reading of Wilbur was utterly convincing. Her voice was irresistibly enthusiastic, plaintive, and sulky by turns. A perfect portwayal of a 6yr old boy. I never thought to hear Prue as a spoilt diva (though her wonderful singing voice might justify diva-like behaviour) and she pulls it off amazingly well. I particularly like the change of tone in her voice when she complains about Wilbur's whimpering. As for my reading: I was a bit worried that my cries of anguish would be too loud, though no one has complained about them yet. Snail gave me a pretty tough monologue (though at least I didn't have to do accents or sing) and I think it carried it off reasonably well. I briefly considered trying a falsetto version but it was difficult to sustain. Snail read Robin Moreau with all the world weary gravitas that I expected of him, being such a big noir fan. The Finnish Marlowe, Deckard, and Spade. Daisy's reading of Millicent Swift was so effectively prim and proper that I felt the unease of being in the presence of a real toff. I loled at the matter of fact reading of "nothing but a pair of knitting needles...and my teeth!" Indy should thinka bout getting into high end tailoring and fashion design. He may not (actually, maybe he does!) have the "chops" (hoah!) for the job, but he certainly talks a good talk. Foofar's monologue was one of my favourites. The tone shift was great and I absolutely loved her evil laugh. That she articulated each of the "ha"s was an outstanding technical achievement.

That was fun, folks, well done!
It was funny how many voices I recognised (it's been a while since I spoke to you, Chil!), and the voices of those of you I haven't met sounded as I would have expected if you see what I mean. |

that was just great! every piece is so good in its on way. and the monologues fit the readers very well!
listening back i notice this bad habit i have of speaking too fast. Kep's is much more easy to listen to. i think Foofar and Craig did the best acting (Craig, is your voice really so low? ). and, i learnt how to pronounce a couple of words that i thought sounded different (suffice, adjacent, vehemently) "What is being awake if not interpreting our dreams,

chilanya wrote: The pace of your voice was just fine, Chil. I got the impression that the character might speak a little fast, anyway. Oh yeah, and I don't really know how to pronounce vehemently, having only ever read it! My voice is quite deep, but not so deep as I made it in the monologue. If someone were to write another monologue I'd read it in a more normal voice. Edit: Listening again, I think I sound like a cross between Dr Lucien Sanchez/Douglas Reynholm from Darkplace and IT Crowd, as well as Buzz Lightyear.

I agree about all the things Craig and the others said, Prue's singing was excellent, too bad the quality of the monologue wasn't very good though, but
she really did a great job with the text.
I very much liked how everyone really tried hard to stick to the role and 'improvised' themselves very talented actors. My favorites were actually Dil (which voice I had never heard, and sounded really like what I had imagined!), Indy (whose voice I had heard but didn't remember, and which was very close in my head to the actor John Hanah) and of course Foofar who made me nearly die of laughter with her evil laugh (but that was the plan right?). Honestly Daisy was way too fast for me, if I had not listened to it, I wouldn't believe one can read that fast outloud, and given you always read faster 'in your head' I think I begin to understand how you guys can read that much more books than I in a year. heh. Chil was indeed a bit fast too, but it was still ok for me. Emano's french false accent was hilarious and it was great to hear Snail's voice which was, as Craig put it, really fitting the role. Chil, if you remember the first Hobb Pod, you can hear Craig's voice, very manly indeed and great accent too. Em was THE TERMINAL and the bleeps sounds were great. (as Craig said). And it was fun and good to hear Keppet again, lovely voice my dear. I think though that I preferred the version of the first pod, when all files were in fact just one big continuous one (hah. sorry guys) But that's only because my players refuse to play them all in the right order and I have to play each file at a time... a shame that Biped and Merlin's parts were not read though. |

FooFar's evil laugh was awesome. It was great to hear voices that I hadn't heard before, and ones that I haven't heard in ages again.
Sorry if I was hard to follow Nadine. That's still probably slower than I usually talk.
The world is a mess and I just... need to rule it.

I can have a go at hooking them all up if people want, now that Craig has done all the hard work and compiled them! I rather like being able to pick 'em
from a list, though, it's very handy!
Ah! So much fun! Everyone sounds so brilliant! Kepp is brilliant as the Narrator, her proper British tones are exactly how I imagined them to be. And it works. Chil's was very cool, as deadly and sexy as every good female assassin should be. So good! Dil resonated competence! Emano - wow! Spectacular effort with the accent. *grin* That would be been a challenging read. Loved it! Ata made me giggle, Prue kind of made me want to slap her (which was of course, perfect) and Craig was terribly, terribly manly. Snail's read was perfect noir, and captured his character beautifully. Very cool and collected. Daisy! You did a perfect job with my script! Bratty and deadly, excellent combination. Indy - you were great, too! Nice and fussy. I really did love Foofar's monologue - the gloatingly evil confession of leading travellers to their death was spot on. And the evil laughs! I was giggling hysterically in my room - bob knows what my flatmate thought of that... Sooooo good. Thanks everyone! Thanks Craig for compiling! And in case you were wondering, the morse code in the background of my monologue was a translation of the monologue itself. I rule at being a nerd.

I wondered what what was! Nice touch. I don't mind trying to stitch the mp3s together, though you'd probably do a better job of it. The main problem is
the inconsistency of audio quality/gain. I don't really know how to normalise it.

If I can find my copy of Audition and run it on the Windows partition of my computer, I can normalise and clean up the sound files, not a worry. I'll
upload it via the drop or rapidshare or something when I'm done, if I can sort it.
No worries! I now have four days off, huzzah.
