Updates: Dragon Keeper is finished. It was too long. Despite my promise that this would be a stand alone single volume work, it has been cut into two volumes. I apologize. The over title is The Rain Wild Chronicles. Dragon Keeper is volume one, Dragon Haven is volume two. Dragon Keeper will come out in the UK in July of 2009, and in the US in January 2010. The second volume will follow in April or May 2010 in both countries. The tale takes place in the Rain Wilds. Chronologically, it occurs after Fool's Fate. It does NOT pick up the tale of Fitz and the Fool. But I trust that some of you will like it anyway. I assume this is the "real" cover, not a mockup, as it's just been added to the HarperCollins oz site. Interesting that it shows the title as "The Dragon Keeper" when all the text on the site still refers to it as "Dragon Keeper". I wonder why they did it differently. I like the cover ... except for the author's name being so HUGE. But that applies to all previous covers where i feel i'm being belted in the face by that very large and heavy font. Anyways, i like all the new Hobb covers that have been coming out. I like the subtle pix, just hinting at what may be within the pages, and the ... um ... negative space. Edited to add: and i'm assuming that faint background is an old unfolded map, with most of the map details very illegible. Which makes for a totally apt and clever cover. The publisher lists it as 1/7/2009 (Edit: that's 1st July 2009). But they now list all their books due out in any particular month as published on the 1st of the month. Sooo, maybe it will come out earlier on the same day as it does in the UK. Or maybe it will really be released on 1st. Or maybe it will be later. In any event, not long now!
