There are a few rules to the Board that can be found here. The most important rule is to respect other people and to be aware of the fact that people are different. There are fora dedicated to Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm (and here and one day here). Please don't be put off by the lack of activity! Regulars will notice new posts but it has been a while since the popular Realm of the Elderling books were first published. Be wary of spoilers though we do try to keep a strict "all spoilers must be marked/hidden" policy. There is also a forum for other authors. Mainly fantasy or scifi but you'll find some other genres too. The most active forum is the Off-Topic chit-chat forum. Feel free to launch into the conversations there and start new ones. But please introduce yourself first in this thread, just for politeness' sake. Introductions don't have to be long and involved. Just look at existing intros for a taste of what people want to hear.

I am in the latter half of my twenties (keeping it vague so I don't have to update this post for a few years) and an eternal physics student. One day I'll feel comfortable calling myself a doctor without saying it in a Tom Baker voice or thinking of "Dr Phil". I picked up Assassin's Apprentice about 10 years ago or so... and put it down again thinking it too much into melodrama. But I came back to it and it has affected me more than a work of fiction probably should. You'll most likely find me in the tv thread though as I am secretly illiterate.

It still works pretty well. Name: pecooper Location: Just outside the Olympic National Park in Washington, USA. Things I have done: navigated submarines, run a metal-stamping press, picked fruit, floor-hand on an oil-drilling rig, draftsman, computer programmer Likes: books, music, artwork, cats, hiking, software that actually works, nifty web bulletin boards ... And I've already been offered, at different times, apricot brandy, fairy bread, French 75, scumble, dwarf bread and wintergreen cookies. Thanks folks, but no more. I'm getting full.

Before that, it was a literature/writing degree. Hmm. Surely there are more exciting things about me than that. Doesn't that look all dry and boring? Anyway, I currently work at Swatch, although that might change soon when I get a real job. I am a rather large fan of drinking and dancing, but also really like my nerdy books and TV like everyone else around here. Em to Q: "If you put my stuff in the toilet I'll @#%$ drown you in it!"

I'm from Western Australia, way down south and rumour has it that I'm leaving my twenties behind me later this year. I first read the Assasins trilogy about ten years ago and then re-read it about 9 years and 11 months ago. Since then I've given the same treatment to the Liveship series and then the Tawny man. I've tried to read other fantasy authors but have rarely found anything i liked (i'm sure there are other good ones out there). Obviously I love the Realm of the Elderlings books or I wouldn't be here. Other than reading I'm also into music, movies, poker, basketball, skin diving and just hanging out with mates. I've already had a look around. Seems like a nice place you've got here.

Hobblings tend to have excellent reading tastes, which certainly makes browsing for new authors damn easy. Eh, and I guess I should do my intro as well. I can't even remember what I wrote in the other thread. Erm. My name is Jes, I live in Tasmania, Australia, and am in my mid-twenties. I tend to jump head first into my obsessions, and while some of them never end (Farseer, Fullmetal Alchemist), on any given week it's almost guaranteed that I'll be completely crazed over a certain book/TV show/anime/etc. Beware of the squeeing. Otherwise I love photography, music, and spending half my life on the internet. I'm terribly lazy when it comes to proper work, so I ease my conscience by staying as far away from it as possible. I will be in my early twenties for a few years to come. I first read Hobb when my brother gave me Assassin's Apprentice when I was around 11. I can't underestimate how much that changed my life! For one thing, it led me to many sleepless nights in the company of books. I am interested in many things - all kinds of literature, sports, martial arts, film, technology, music. As for jobs, I have been: a web designer, office slave, document editor (my boss is essentially - but not clinically - dyslexic), and I am unfortunately a full time draughtsman at the moment. I do not think of my job as having anything to do with my 'real' life, however, and I'm looking for a way out of office based work. I don't make much effort with my posts and they are usually way shorter than this. In fact, if you are a new-hobbling you probably won't see much of me. Especially as I look all of 16. I first came across Hobb at a local library, where Fool's Errand was on display. So I did read things somewhat out of order, but did manage to read Fool's Fate at the very end. That meant some of the finesse of various plot points were lost on me, but I still loved it all. I graduated from university last May, I think, with degrees in Humanities and Philosophy. Now I'm working in a Financial Advising office, not exactly practicing either. It's wonderful work, though, and I am excited about where my career is going. I'm an animal-lover, and my avatar is my dog, Doby. He's chewing a tennis ball there, if you're new and wondering. I also have a little Jack Russell Terrier named Stella. She lives with me. I'm a vegetarian and very interested in environmental matters. I feel out of the loop now that I'm out of school though. Also I like pluots, which are a plum-apricot hybrid. They are wonderful. Don't believe Keppet, as she will completely downgrade them to mere plums. I've just read everything by her. Can't quite believe it. But once I started I simply didn't want to stop. I love her approach to characterization and plot development. I'm from New York and currently live in a small but prosperous East Asian city. I'm just about a psychologist. Dissertation ending on the horizon. My interests: meditation, contemplation, dharmic religion and philosophy, beautiful music, food (wouldn't mind if someone would toss me a linguine with mussels as it's been a while). I love history and all kinds of subjects, but only in a very right-brained style. These books were so great that I didn't just want to sit on all of my reactions to them. Glad to be here.

Well, whatever...first posts are more important, right...? Anyway. I've been meaning to write in here for um...months. Bad me. So. I'm skittledog, usually shortened to skit or skits. Sorry about the name, but it's a bit late to change it now. Been on the board for five and a half years, at which point I had just read Fool's Errand and desperately needed people to discuss the books with. I haven't managed to leave since. I'm female, just past the middle of my twenties, live in England and work as a railway engineer. Hmm, that sounds less interesting every time I say it. I like books, tv, holidays, walking, and sitting around for hours doing nothing but discuss fictional characters.
